The final Friday of the month, the Denver Art Museum (DAM) offers a dose of the unexpected with offbeat art encounters, unique detours of the DAM collection, artmaking, local music, cash bar, munchies and more. At each mixed-media Untitled event, the museum explores a specific theme with exhibition related activities and community collaborations. The museum keeps its door open late; each event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. The new season kicks off January 27 with Untitled #43 (Made in China).

The museum celebrates the cultural wonders of China in the special exhibitions Xu Beihong and Threads of Heaven. Guests can try their hand at water calligraphy, chat with artist Scot Lefavor, learn about the mythical beasts behind the Year of the Dragon or jump into the DAM's KTV karaoke lounge.

Brian Smith, the guiding light behind Denver's Space Creators, a company that, well, creates space, started big when his first redevelopment project, Wazee Union, opened in 2010. Since then, he's just kept thinking bigger and bigger, with projects including Wazee Union's sister facility, Walnut Workshop, right across the railroad tracks. Both provide affordable studio spaces for artists and people with other independent small businesses, as well as rich communal settings. But with the third link in his empire, Laundry on Lawrence, he's taking things a step further. The Laundry is not only the first of the three to include its own dedicated gallery space, but it also has a theater space occupied by the tag-teaming LIDA Project and Control Group performance and dance groups. Space Creators will host a Laundry on Lawrence Grand Opening tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. to celebrate this noble experiment with a very good vibe, and to build up community recognition.

The celebration's biggest jewel is a juried art exhibition in the gallery, with awards being given out at 8 p.m. Before that consummation of the space, however, there will also be a ribbon-cutting, live music and refreshments, a photo booth, film screenings and more. This is the perfect chance to explore the Laundry's brave new world.

In David Mamet's darkly comic and profane 1984 Pulitzer-winner, four corrupt real-estate salesmen struggle to win a cutthroat sales contest. Lies, blackmail, burglary, double-cross and desperation are the reality behind the snappy suits and brittle confidence of these veteran hucksters. The play draws partly on Mamet's experiences in a Chicago real estate office, where he worked briefly in the late 1960s. The title of the play comes from the names of two of the real estate developments being peddled by the salesmen characters, Glengarry Highlands and Glen Ross Farms.

"In The Whale" originally started in middle-of-nowhere-land, Greeley, Colorado. In February of 2011, they moved to Denver to be a part of the music scene and build a legitimate fan base. Since their move, they have been the name on everyone's lips, turning heads with their passionate and aggressive live shows.

In their own words: "Our music tends to explore the sleazier side of life... the creepy guy in the bar eyeballing the pretty girl, the televangelist who tells you he can save you from the lake of fire, that one uncle you have with the gun collection. We hope to convey a sort of mixture of passion, aggression, and fun with our live show, and we like to think we do a damn good job at it, thank you very much."
